Bruce Westre
President

Bruce Westre

Bruce was born and raised in SE Alaska. After graduating from High School in Ketchikan, Bruce attended the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.

In 1979, Bruce married Wendy Hammer, daughter of Jim Hammer and granddaughter of founding father John Hammer, of Petersburg where they continue to make their home.

Bruce worked in law enforcement for over 27 years where he achieved his advanced certification, was a certified instructor in several fields, and was a certified polygraph examiner. He excelled in management responsibilities to include dealing with personnel issues, supervised criminal investigations, developed, and managed budgets. After retiring from law enforcement Bruce worked four years with the State of Alaska for Child Protection Services.

Bruce’s hobbies include fishing, camping, hunting and many more outdoor activities. Bruce is a member of the Pioneers of Alaska #26 and the Petersburg Elks Lodge #1615.

Bruce has been an active member of the Board of Directors since 2010. He held the position of Vice President from 2013 to 2024. In 2024 Bruce became the President of the Board of Directors for Hammer and Wikan, Inc.  

Katrina Miller

Katrina Miller

Katrina is a proud fourth-generation descendant of Andrew Wikan, born and raised in Petersburg, Alaska. She has served on the Hammer and Wikan board of directors for many years, helping to support and guide the company’s success.  In 2024 she was elected as Vice President.

She is married to a fisherman, Aaron Miller, and together they have built a life on the water by starting their own commercial fishing company. They have three amazing daughters who keep their lives busy and full of adventure.

Katrina’s day job is working as a bookkeeper, she enjoys the challenge of working with numbers and people alike.

When working, Katrina enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and fishing! When not outdoors, she enjoys quilting and loves to make quilts for family and friends.

Wendy Westre
Secretary

Wendy Westre

Wendy is the daughter of Jim and Bev Hammer and the granddaughter of Hammer & Wikan’s founding father, John Hammer. Wendy has served on the Hammer & Wikan Board of Director’s since the late 1980’s bringing a wide range of history and depth to the table. She currently holds the position of Secretary of the board.

Wendy’s work history ranges from an education assistant, travel agent, hospital administration, lab & radiology services, and materials management. Wendy worked outside of her home for over 30 years, but her favorite “job” is that of wife, mother, and grandma.

Wendy taught Sunday School for many years at Petersburg Lutheran Church, lead Adult Bible Studies, was on the Church Council for several terms and held the position of President of the Congregation, she was an active member of the Viking Swim Club for several years, she is a member of Pioneers of Alaska – Women’s Igloo #10 and The Rain Country Quilt Guild.

Wendy’s interests and hobbies include quilting, crafting, hand-lettering, watercolor, any outdoor activity that includes fishing, hiking, camping, exploring, playing on a warm beach, collecting rocks and shells, spending time with her family and close friends, but especially working with her husband, Bruce, on a combined retirement project.

Jim Floyd
GM, CEO

Jim Floyd

Jim E Floyd, the General Manager, CEO of Hammer & Wikan, INC since November 2019. Jim was born in Watertown NY and moved to California as a teenager. He attended California State University Sacramento and majored in Business Management.

Jim has over 30 years of Retail Management and Buying experience. Jim worked for Fred Meyer a division of Kroger for 18 years in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. In 2019 he responded and was selected to fill the open position of General Manager, CEO for Hammer & Wikan.

Jim embraced the community of Petersburg. He is a member of Rotary, the Elks, the Moose, the Son’s of Norway. He has served four terms as the President of the Chamber of Commerce. He is on the local Emergency Planning Commission and was elected and serves on the Borough Zoning and Planning Commission and is a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He and his wife play an active role standing in for Mr. & Mrs. Santa. Jim has a passion for people and a passion for results.

Larry Martin

Larry Martin

Larry was born and raised in Anchorage Alaska. Graduated high school in 1966 then spent one tour in the US Navy from 1967 – 1971. Larry worked for Carrs Quality Centers for 25 years and then ran 4 stores in Kodiak Ak for Alaska Commercial Co. He went to work for Hammer and Wikan in July of 1998 as their General Mgr./ CEO. He retired in 2017 and stayed on as a consultant and a board member for 4 years. He is now retired but still on the Board of Directors for Hammer and Wikan.

Larry has served on several Chamber of Commerce boards, spent 25 years in Rotary, is a member of Petersburg Elks Lodge, a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge, lifetime member of the Sitka Masonic Lodge and a member of the Anchorage Shriners Lodge.

Sharon Wikan

Sharon Wikan

Sharon is the granddaughter of Andrew Wikan, one of the founders and she is daughter of Bojer Wikan.  In 1973 Sharon was placed on the Board of Directors. In 1976 Andrew Wikan was the Corporation Vice President, he nominated Sharon to take over his job of Vice President.  He wanted some of the young people to become involved in the business.  At that time Andy Wikan was President and Art Hammer was the Secretary Treasurer.  We made many changes in the first few years, as things were a bit antiquated and continued to grow. In 1977 Sharon became Secretary Treasurer, as she wanted to use her financial skills.  Sharon was Secretary Treasurer until 2007.

Sharon started her career path in 1969, when she went to work for Bank of Petersburg. The National Bank of Alaska purchased the Bank of Petersburg in 1971. In 1973 Sharon was promoted to Assistant Cashier.  She was the youngest woman, at that time, to receive that office in the National Bank of Alaska.  In 1975 she was made Assistant Vice President. She quit working in 1978 to raise her family of three children, Audrey, Katrina and Sigmund.  At that point, she was Assistant Manager of the Petersburg Branch.

In 1980, Sharon and her husband purchased Rock-n-Road Construction. Sharon worked as the office manager for the next 14 years.   In 1995 Sharon started working with Petersburg Wrangell Insurance as bookkeeper for the corporation. Later she became a commercial insurance agent, along with her bookkeeping job.  She semiretired in 2014.  She continued to do the bookkeeping until 2022 and now is officially retired.

Sharon was asked to join the National Bank of Alaska Advisory Board for Petersburg in 1991.  In 1994 she was placed on the National Bank of Alaska Board of Directors.  She served on the Board until 2001, at that time Wells Fargo purchased National Bank of Alaska. From there, they had an Alaskan Advisory Board, and she was a member until it was disbanded in 2022. Sharon has been on many boards throughout the years and is currently on Sons of Norway and Mountain View Food Service.

Sharon’s hobbies are traveling, adventuring at her cabin at Pt Agassiz, spending time with family, doing genealogy, baking,and sewing, etc.

Jacob Hammer

Jacob Hammer a descendant of John Hammer one of the founding members of Hammer & Wikan. Born in Petersburg 1978,  joined the Marine Corps in 1996 and served until 2005.  Jacob resides in Petersburg with his wife Kacey and 3 kids Isabelle, Nick, and Jon.  He is a commercial fisherman and flower farmer as well as proudly serving on the board of directors for Hammer & Wikan.

Karen Knorr

Karen is the daughter of Darryl and Judy Jensen and the granddaughter of Marie Wikan Jensen and the great granddaughter of one of Hammer & Wikan’s founding fathers, Andrew Wikan. Karen joined the board in May 2024.

Karen was born and raised in Washington State and currently resides in Spokane with her husband Rick. They have two daughters. She attended Lakewood High School in Snohomish County and went on to graduate from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, emphasis in accounting. Karen’s work history ranges from working as a Certified Public Accountant at a regional accounting firm in Spokane, a contract controller, accountant for a law office, a controller at an FQHC clinic and currently is a Senior Financial Analyst for a hospital in Pend Oreille County.

Karen previously volunteered as a PTO treasurer for several years, Senior Class Allnighter treasurer and fundraiser, twice, and was a girl scout troop leader for several years in the Spokane Valley. Her other duties included being chauffer to many sporting events as her girls participated in basketball, soccer, softball, and cheerleading. She also continues to be a “fan” at her husband’s hockey games.

Karen’s interests and hobbies include tending to her rose garden, gardening, so there are a lot of veggies to make salsa, crafting, and other artistic endeavors. She enjoys going to Spokane Chiefs hockey games as well as the Seattle Kraken. Her and her husband also attend many Washington State Football games. She loves spending time at property on Lopez Island, in the San Juan Islands, in Washington. It is her “happy place” and originally belonged to her Grandparents. Her husband is now retired, and she is looking forward to planning some travel time, however, Petersburg is on her list every year.
